(Opening Message, CAC General Reading, December 15, 1994)
This Awareness indicates the Christmas season, as always, is a time when entities become more in harmony with themselves and with others. It is a time when entities reflect on more meaningful things in life. There is, of course, that frantic commercialism that accompanies the season and tends to detract from the more important elements of the Christmas spirit.
This Awareness indicates however, enough of the Christmas spirit comes through to help them recharge their spiritual interests, and this is beneficial. This Awareness indicates that in moving into the coming year, a refreshment, a sense of new enthusiasm is that which entities may expect — for the coming two years will be of great benefit for humanity and entities will look back on this time as an absolutely incredible period to be alive.
THINGS ARE IMPROVING IN OUR NATION (They’re Not Hanging Catholics Anymore)

This Awareness indicates that it may appear at times that the world is getting worse, and that 50 years ago, or 100 years ago, people were better behaved because of better values, and that things are progressively deteriorating, and many entities could well become discouraged about the future.
This Awareness indicates if you look at things in terms of the crimes reported in your newspaper, you may see this appearance of a continued deterioration of social values and conditions; but if you look at things from another point of view, you might think that things are getting much better.
This Awareness reminds you of the early years of this century, where the Ku Klux Klan, for example, were still hanging black people. This Awareness indicates that in the law books of Oregon City, a union state, there is a law on the books that states that any black man being caught after sundown may be hanged.
This Awareness indicates that it does not appear that this law has been taken of the books, or if it has, it has only recently been removed, but it has been buried so that people could not find this easily. They do not take it off because it would require a vote of some legislative body to remove it from the books, which would call attention to it, and there is too much embarrassment at it even being there.
This Awareness indicates that, likewise, there are many other embarrassing laws in various cities and various states that are simply ignored because the values of people no longer want to call attention to these laws.
This Awareness indicates that in the small town of Canby, Oregon, in the 1920s, Catholics were being hunted down and hanged by certain groups of Protestants who did not want Catholics to get a foothold in their community.
This Awareness indicates that in more recent times, people have become much more tolerant of varieties in terms of culture, religion, race, nationality; so that what once might have led to great hostility between people is now seen to be of no consequence.
This Awareness indicates that in this sense, the polarity that once dominated and created bigotry between entities has diminished greatly, to the point where people are more tolerant of each other’s differences.
This means that there is something good happening.
This Awareness asks you to imagine this rate of change that has occurred during this century in this regard, and project into another century the changes that might result in the future if people continue to become more tolerant of each other.
This Awareness indicates that it is true that there is a considerable amount of violence, and this is a concern, but entities also need to be aware that in the past few years, the crime rate has diminished. It is not increasing now, as it did in the early part of this decade. It is now diminishing.
There is much for entities to be pleased about. Even though the focus on crime may have become much more acute and much more common, so that people notice crime more because attention is called to it, still it is diminishing, and that there is much to be pleased with in this regard.
This Awareness indicates in other words, there is improvement. It is not always easy to see. It is not always easy to find. Entities have to look behind some of the more out standing stories to recognize improvements are occurring.
