gest after each kid describes what he was attempting to

thing really to keep their attention for a while, I would

time they dldn’t win, but maybe next time they will. That
you can’t be perfect everif time, and the person who wins

If children learn this, they know that there is a time
when they may win and they do not need to get discour-
aged at having lost this time. The danger of contests is
that sometimes the losers label themselves losers for all
time alter only having lost once.
It is good to inform children that no one is a loser
unless they give up and cipit trying. it is also good to
allow in future contests t at those who lost before have
anopportunity to win later. If you always piclt a certain

the child who is inadequate to give special attention to
help that child improve his or her work, so that he or she

who would do that, hut if you are truly sensitive to
children, you might see that the child who drew the

generation and its significance, especially now as we
approach middle age with its attendant anxieties.
“Who are all those extra souls who came to earth at
that time? I know the surface reasons, the end of the war,
et cetera, but wonder about the deeper factors involved?
It seems to me that we are special, and not just because
there are more of us, though that alone must be impor-

ing the baby-boomers was a generation that experienced

eneration expressed the longing, the separations, the

and expressed their hurt through song. The songs of the

express this kind of shallow nonchalant expression of
love, wherein there is a joy without deep sorrow or deep
heavy emotion being expressed.
Some of the baby-boomer songs did express some
sorrow or loss, but it appears that qttite a number of
songs of the baby boomers, patticu arly in the Sixties
and Seventies, expressed a great sense of joy in life.
Therefore, in terms of the music, the baby -boomers
started a new trend away from the sorrow that was
expressed from the generation that eiperiencecl World
War Two with all its tragedy and sul’ ering.

they were killed 1n World Wm” Two, and yet they came
back to survive and start again.
The do not want to live their life under the threat of
annihilation, so they are not afraid to march for what is
right. They are not afraid to object to the threats of
nuclear war. They are not afraid to ob’ect to the wars
that are occurring in their world and tfxese baby-boomers
know that thcy are a force that cap be beneficial in
bringirg about a new kind of environment, a new kind of
politlc reality and a new kind of world in which to
raise their own children.
It is not that they see the older generation as being
wrong, Tltey simply see the older generation as lacking
in the vision, as being afraid to let down their guard,
afraid to put down the power they feel is necessary in
order to keep peace or win peace.
